EDTA blood.

Store and ship samples at temperatures between approximately 4-8 ° C; refrigerant gels or ice pack ice can be used for shipping.

DNA extraction from the sample using commercial kits.

PCR using primers that recognize the specific alleles HLA-A, B, C, DRB1, DRB3, DRB4, DRB5 and DQB1.

08 working days.

Negative: Alleles B27: 2701-2717, 2719-2721, 2724, 2725.

Positive: B27 alleles: 2701-2717, 2719-2721, 2724, 2725.

Genomik Laboratory has validated this test with positive and negative commercial controls; however, a negative result does not exclude the presence of HLA DNA below the sensitivity limit of the test, nor the possible presence of inhibitors of the PCR reaction.

A positive test means that HLA-B27 is present and suggests an above average risk of developing or having certain autoimmune disorders. An autoimmune disorder is a condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body tissue.

A positive result can help your provider make a diagnosis of a form of arthritis called spondyloarthritis. This type of arthritis includes the following disorders:

  • Ankylosing spondylitis.
  • Arthritis related to Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
  • Psoriatic arthritis (arthritis associated with psoriasis).
  • Reactive arthritis.
  • Sacroiliitis (inflammation of the sacroiliac joint).
  • Uveitis.

If there are signs or symptoms of an autoimmune disease, a positive HLA-B27 test may confirm the diagnosis. However, HLA-B27 is usually found in a small number of white people and does not always mean that you have a disease.
